Justus Roe (American, b. 1977)
Using a variety of mediums, Justus Roe creates immersive large-scale artwork including interior and exterior wall paintings, sculpture, installations, and canvas painting. Developed In-Situ, the work explores the intersection between wildstyle aesthetics and abstraction. Influenced by architecture, city design, geometry and landscapes, the works are reminiscent of aerial perspectives and metropolitan environments. Often in collaboration with architects, designers, curators and clients, Roe creates unique, iconic works of art that help to engage audiences and define specific environments.
Roe’s interest in art started in the late eighties influenced by subway and public painting and went on to study Fine Art at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign and Media Arts MFA at Columbia. He keeps an active studio and public practice, and has created works in Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Toronto, throughout Chicago and the Midwest.
